UniSA Photonics and Engineering Field Trip
On Thursday 29 August, staff members Linda E, Matt S and Stef took 22 SACE Stage 2 students to the University of South Australia Mawson Lakes campus to discuss Photonics and Engineering with Professor Dave Lancaster and UniSA Connect. The students were able to put into context some of the concepts they are learning in Physics (in Topic 3: Light and Matter), and they were also given some insight into future projections for the Australian economy and how dynamic careers in science and engineering can be.

As well as a 30-minute discussion with Professor Lancaster about his career, where economic growth is happening in Australia and some of the amazing work being done in the field of Photonics, we were then given the opportunity to tour both the Photonics and Engineering labs.

The afternoon was a great opportunity for our students to familiarise themselves with what the Mawson Lakes campus has to offer (and discuss what university life is like) and to help them start thinking about some of the options they may not have been aware of for next year, when they begin their tertiary study.
