Refugee Week had a special 'welcome' theme for 2020, and this spirit informed our activities during our week of celebrations. A special display wall was made up of students' contributions to what welcome has meant for those who come from refugee backgrounds, and warm wishes of welcome expressed by students of non-refugee backgrounds. The library also had a display with photos and poems expressing the significance of 'welcome'.
Our key event was a drumming workshop where over 50 students and staff enjoyed learning drum routines from an 'In Rhythm' guest facilitator, Gabi. She explained how drumming can act as a language to communicate meaningful occasions in various cultures. It was an energetic afternoon with lots of smiles and gratitude for the diverse skills and experiences refugees bring to Australia.
