SACE STAGE 2 ENGLISH EXCURSION
ART GALLERY AND MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY
SACE STAGE 2 ENGLISH EXCURSION
On 28 March students in SACE Stage 2 English visited the South Australian Art Gallery and the Museum of Discovery (MOD) as inspiration to write an experiential review for a summative task.

Students met on North Terrace before exploring the exhibits in the Art Gallery. They were encouraged to fully experience everything the Art Gallery had to offer - from appreciating the exhibits to drawing self-portraits in the interactive studio located on the ground floor. Students took photos to include in their reviews before engaging in a brief discussion of what they had gained from the experience on the lawns outside.

Students then caught the tram to MOD, located within the University of South Australia, to experience their current exhibit: Waging Peace. Here students were able to use interactive screens to examine different planets and star systems, as well as control 3D projections of these planets on a suspended sphere. They explored the peaceful and restorative nature of sleep through a sleep room and participated in a number of peace based app games on iPads in the downstairs gallery. Smaller groups of students were able to enter the augmented reality room to experience relief efforts in a simulated disaster zone while others watched Trigger Warning, a short film speculating on the dangerous trust and mistrust created through media saturation in today's world.

Students reported finding the experience of visiting the Art Gallery and MOD inspiring, engaging and thought provoking. They were excited to see how the skills they are developing in English can be applied to real world contexts and future vocational pathways.
