SACE Stage 2 Earth and Environmental Science
Collecting Data in the City
SACE Stage 2 Earth and Environmental Science
Our first topic in SACE Stage 2 Earth and Environmental Science is about the interactions of the earth's four spheres (Hydrosphere, Geosphere, Biosphere and Atmosphere). As part of our first task, the class has spent the last couple of weeks working on our Field Practical. This meant that we had to collect water samples from the River Torrens (in the city) and test for the amount of ions present, total dissolved solids and pH to determine the current health of the river and whether or not urbanisation has any impact on its overall health. Interestingly, the data collected so far indicates that at the moment, the River Torrens is within ranges that are considered healthy for consumption.

While we were in the city, we also had a fascinating tour of the Tate Museum at the University of Adelaide and spoke to some of the Department of Science Program Directors about course options for next year and the Science Academy Program for Stage 2 students. We are looking forward to our next field trip next term - a four-day camp.
