This course provides students with an overview of the fashion design principles and techniques used to produce simple garments.

Overview
Students engage in a range of practical activities designed to emphasis the theoretical components of the course. Topics covered include:

  • set up and operation of the sewing machine
  • reading and interpreting patterns
  • the design process
  • sewing fashion components
  • clothing embellishment
  • fashion sketching
Students apply the knowledge and skills developed to produce their own fashion garment or simple costume.

Students who choose to complete both semesters of Fashion and Costume Design will continue to build their knowledge and skills across the year.
