Students are introduced to designing and producing personal and business documents using a variety of contemporary software including Word, Publisher and Excel. Skills developed are suitable for further study, personal communications and employment.

Students apply manipulative and organisational skills to the use of information-processing technology, applying layout and design principles to the production of text-based documents. Students apply the Design Process in investigating, planning, producing and evaluating text-based products.

Course Content
Practical tasks include letters and letterhead designs, logo designs, formal business reports, tables, charts, folded booklets, brochures, newsletters, advertising flyers and mail merge.

Social, legal and ethical issues considered may include such topics as:

  • online confidentiality
  • workplace health, safety and welfare
  • technical operations
  • online security, privacy concerns and social media
