TSC Drumming Club Performs at St Mary's Memorial School
On the 11th of June, members of the Thebarton Senior College Drumming Club (accompanied by teachers Paul Richardson and Marisa Antoniades) performed for the children and staff of St Mary's Memorial School, Glenelg. The performance gave our students an opportunity to share parts of their culture with the St Mary's students and also to perform for them.

The group consisted of Mansoora, Fatima and Saeeda from Afghanistan, Nethmi from Sri Lanka, and Kesiya from Tanzania. Mansoora spoke about the Rubab, a national instrument of Afghanistan, Fatima explained how the Persian drum was played, Saeeda spoke about her journey from Afghanistan to Australia, Nethmi told the children about the Sri Lankan Wedding Drum known as the Gata Bera and Kesiya spoke of her connection to a church choir.

Fatima, Mansoora, Saeeda and Nethmi also performed on the Djembe drums and Kesiya sang a gospel song in Swahili.

It was an enjoyable experience for our students, and we thank St Mary's Memorial School for hosting us.
