Time for Nature
World Environment Day 2020 was celebrated at Thebarton Senior College in week 6 term 3, with a range of class activities and small group lunchtime events. The aim of World Environment Day is to increase environmental awareness and pledge actions to improve it. The event supports our commitment to being a UN Global Peace School and our college value of Sustainability.

Student work in the area of environmental awareness and sustainability was displayed around the college and groups of students presented their work to other classes. Over 75 students participated in our Sustainability Tour competition, highlighting the good things we do around the college in sustainability. Two entries were drawn from the competition - congratulations to Bulcha and Nethmi who both won book vouchers.

During the week, groups of students learnt how to make a mini veggie and herb garden from recycled material and were able to 'get up close' and view the two tree frogs on loan in Science. We learnt how to sort out recycling from our rubbish and took flight with the STEM club, showing the links between science and its role in collecting important data on animal populations, linking the importance of biodiversity. Finally, on Friday, students took the opportunity to write a pledge they would take this year towards helping the environment and to take a photo with our "TIME FOR NATURE" chalk mural.

A big thank you to all who participated and helped in the event. Keep up the good work, and tell your family and friends about your pledged action! We look forward to your participation again in 2021.
