Drive for your Life!
The Adelaide 500 Schools Day on the Thursday of the Adelaide 500 race program (1st March this year) has become part of the curriculum for students undertaking Stage 1 Car Care and Stage 2 Automotive classes. The 'Drive for your Life' component of the course highlights the differences between racetrack conditions and vehicles and compares them with urban streetscapes and passenger vehicles. The aim is to create safety awareness and promote safe driving practices amongst young people who are most at risk of serious injury and death on our roads.

The program, now in its third year, has proved popular amongst students who enjoy the opportunity to view the cars up close and experience the exciting trackside events. For many students, it is their first time at an event of this sort. Importantly, the safety message is reinforced through the support of pit crews and event staff who provide insights into the safety features of the vehicles and the many safety provisions that are installed around the track.
