Harmony Day
Everyone Belongs
Harmony Day
On Thursday 18th of March, students and staff came together to celebrate Harmony Day. This is the day where we celebrate our Australian values of respect, equality and inclusiveness for everyone who calls Australia home. The central message for Harmony Day is 'everyone belongs'.

Our celebrations began at recess time with a DJ ran by Student Voice group where students played and shared international music of their choice while fun games were played on the lawns. Our library team ran various creative craft activities where students worked and created together. We had a Belonging Trees exhibition in the courtyard outside the library and students were invited to add colourful leaves to the exhibition after writing a note about harmony on them. Students were also involved in the 'Harmony wrap' and in creating Harmony badges. The Pride Club also ran a stall that promoted diversity and harmony and the STEM Club ran activities and challenges that many students participated in.

At lunchtime, we held a special ceremony which started with students from the Drumming Club delivering a live music experience followed by a Welcome to Country performed by Mickey O'Brien. Our students celebrated Harmony Day by wearing their cultural costumes and participating in a diverse range of folkloric cultural performances where they sang and danced to the rhythms of their traditional songs. Our college band also played a fantastic rendition of 'Lean on Me.' It was fantastic to see our students performing.

One of our New Arrivals Program classes created a lovely display of large colourful hearts that were on display on the lawns for the day. The hearts were spread over the cafeteria lawns and displayed words to share messages of love, unity, respect and inclusion. Outside of the Walsh building, our students also worked together to draw a giant chalk mural. As students and staff walked into the building, they were invited to write a note that highlights inclusion and belonging at our school. At the entrance of the Gym, our students wrote Harmony on a large banner in more than 75 different languages which displays our college's linguistic and cultural richness and diversity.

Harmony Day was a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to come together to learn about and embrace our differences, as well as celebrate our similarities. Thank you to all of our staff and students that made the day so special.
