What does it take to work in the video games industry?
On Tuesday May 28th, students from the Stage 1 Digital Technologies class and the Certificate IV in Screen and Media class visited Game Plus in the city.

Game Plus is a collaborative workspace for game developers and related specialist technology start-ups. Established to support the needs of small independent studios, Game Plus is a workspace that has been custom built to enhance collaboration and innovation. It provides a hub for digital entrepreneurs to co-locate, share resources, knowledge and opportunities. It is also a focal point for government and industry to access a range of specialist expertise in interactive entertainment, simulation and training.

Mandy Rossetto from Beacon Foundation organised for a number of the game development studios based at Games Plus to talk to students about how to get into the video games industry and the type work they do.

Speakers from game development studios Mighty Kingdom, Melonheads and Last Minute Entertainment shared their experiences and offered advice on how to best prepare for a career in the games industry.

The most interesting 'takeaways' for students were:
- there are a multitude of pathways into the games industry
- being able to work with others is the most important thing
- starting your own studio is more difficult than anyone expects, because you have to manage the business as well as the game design

Thank you to Beacon Foundation for organising this industry visit for our students.
